Diamond Council of America elects new board

Nashville, Tenn.--The Diamond Council of America (DCA) elected new members to its board of directors at its annual meeting in Las Vegas.
The new members are: Josh Weinman of Tache Diamonds as chairman, Peter Engel of Fred Meyer Jewelers Inc. as chairman elect and Bud Fluty of Absolute Brilliance Inc. as secretary/treasurer.

Weinman is president of Tache Diamonds, the U.S. diamond division of Tache, a Diamond Trading Co. sightholder based in Antwerp, Belgium. He joined Tache in 1994 as a diamond buyer who traveled monthly to Antwerp, India and Israel. Within five years, he was promoted to executive vice president. In 2004, Tache opened a flagship diamond office on Fifth Avenue in New York City's diamond district, and Weinman was promoted to president of the diamond division. He is a Gen-Next Jewelers board executive member and an active member of the American Gem Society (AGS), among other industry organizations.
Engel is president of Fred Meyer Jewelers. He joined Fred Meyer Jewelers in 1981 as a sales associate. In 1986, he became a manager, and in November 1993, was promoted to regional supervisor. During the acquisition of Littman Jewelers in 1998, Engel was promoted to vice president of operations on the East Coast. In January 2001, Engel moved to Portland, Ore., and assumed the position of group vice president of store operations. In March 2005, Engel was promoted to president. He plays an active role in the Oregon Chapter of CASA for Children and serves on the board of directors of Jewelers for Children.
Fluty is a partner and serves as vice president of sales and marketing for Absolute Brilliance. As a 24-year veteran of the jewelry industry, he has served as director of special events for Zale Corp. and currently oversees all sales, marketing and training for Absolute Brilliance based in New York. He holds the Registered Supplier certificate from the AGS, is Diamond Certified by the DCA and holds a wide variety of Gemological Institute of America certificates.
Two new directors were also elected to the board: David Peters, director of member services for Jewelers of America, and Darrell Warren, vice president of tools and fabricated metals for Stuller Inc.
Other members serving on the DCA's board as vice presidents include: Vicki Cunningham of Cunningham Fine Jewelry, Mary Ann Doran of Zale Corp. and Bruce Kenny of Sterling Jewelers.
Other directors on the board include: Dan Casanova of Riddle's Jewelry, Randy McCullough and Kate Peterson of Performance Concepts. Gerald Robbins of Robbins Diamonds serves as chairman emeritus. DCA President and Chief Executive Officer Terry Chandler also serves as a director.
Founded in 1944, the DCA is a nonprofit forum to educate jewelry sales professionals about diamonds and gems. The DCA currently represents more than 4,900 jewelry stores and leading suppliers of diamonds and gems across the country.
